What is Inflatable Plug Stopping?
Inflatable Plug Stopping is a highly specialized type of line stopping. An inflatable "bag" is inserted through a hot top made on the pipe. The bag is inflated in the pipe(which is supported by a sleeve) - and conforms to the interior of the pipe, providing a tight seal to stop the water flow.
When to Use a Inflatable Plug Stopping
Inflatable Plug Stops are appropriate for municipal and commercial water and force main sewer applications with lower pressures and flow rates (<20PSI, <1 ft/sec of flow).
Inflatable line stopping can be performed on the primary water/sewer main types:
- Cast iron
- Ductile iron
- PVC
- Steel
- Asbestos cement (AC, or transite)
